“This place where you are right now, God circled on a map for you.” ~ Hafiz
We have reached Day 14 of our 21 day journey. After touching upon areas such as decluttering, relationships, forgiveness and so much more, day 14 focuses on appreciating what is!
I came across a book written by Byron Katie called ‘Loving What Is’. It showed me that by crowding our minds with stories and assumption, we stray from reality to a place complete with resentment and despair. By discontinuing this harmful relationship and appreciating the situation as is, we can keep our mind clear and prevent suffering.
She articulates a 4 question formula of self-enquiry that makes us re-think of the problem/ thoughts at hand, bringing us closer to reality.
- Is it true?
- Can you absolutely know that it’s true?
- How do I react when I think this thought?
- What would I be without this thought?
Then, turn it around.
Do our thoughts have legitimacy? If not, what would it be like if we didn’t think a certain way. By appreciating the situation we can rid harmful thoughts and open our minds.
Sometimes, we forget the bigger picture. We forget how all events in our lives has lead us right where we should be. Once we appreciate and accept this, we can truly feel fortunate. We free our minds for new possibilities.
Don’t resist what is. Breathe in the truth. It will bring peace and happiness.
Try it today.
