Schools have become a scary place lately. All the adolescents who have problems walk in with a gun and shoot at random. It is a tragedy that repeats itself quite frequently and that’s a bad and sad trend. Flowers were found in schools once, but now there are bullets.
A State in US has allowed teachers to carry guns to school for self defense and to protect their wards. Fair enough. But the innocence of the school is gone. And so has the innocence and cuteness of the kids. This is the only place where one can be equal with another and not worry about the worldly stuff. If evil visits even this holy place, where else can kids go?

Where is the problem? Guns?
I don’t think so. American tradition is wholly based on freedom and freedom alone. If there is any threat to that, then the whole system is shaken. But again we live in a world where change is the need of the hour. I sympathize with both and it is hard to choose.
On a day of tragedy, no one wants guns anywhere. That is an emotional decision. A few days later when dust settles, heart opens up for a discussion.
It is tough, but yes, a middle path can be taken. Strict background checks, etc should be implemented. At the same time, apart from guns even the support system of the kids should get stronger.
Like everything in our life, this change should start from home. Disturbing behavior should be noticed by the parents and next of kin first. If family doesn’t help who will?
Well, and then come the teachers and peers. When you notice something amiss, report, counsel and then alleviate the problem.
Make everyone feel part of the system and not as an outlaw.
Inclusive society works.
