Movies are for entertainment. Families flocking to theaters to catch an action movie or a feel-good movie with a tub of popcorn were a celebration for a long time now. Hollywood dishing out sci-fi flicks by a dozen and showcasing their technical prowess is seriously hurting the good old family time.
Every second movie looks similar. There is no novelty anymore in the machines versus man fight or superhero against villain and then superheroes against villains and now an announcement of superhero versus superhero.
Come on, stop it!

Either it is a teen flick with a lot of R rated stuff or a comedy that borders on silly. Then there are the geniuses who make movies even they don’t understand. A good section of fan boys believe that if you don’t understand a movie then it should be a masterpiece. This keeps these genius directors filming half scripts in the faith that this would be novel and there is a paying public who would digest this thinking it is nice.
Problem is directors and studios are trying to manipulate the tastes of the audience. As someone recently noted, the world market is more lucrative now rather than the domestic market itself and therefore, to appeal to say Asia et al, all these sci-fi flicks, which look like video games are being released.
There is no art in cinema anymore.
It is purely business.
It was always business, but with a heart to be inclusive. Now, they are alienating the families. You may earn a quick buck pitting one machine against another, but sooner or later, families will stay home.
It is a wake-up call, really.
Time for those slow paced three-course dinner like movies, which had something for everyone.
And which left us feeling good and smiling when we walked out of the theaters.
