Savoring Life, Bite By Bite

The aroma of sizzling potatoes filled the air as Aaliyah and I headed over to Mrs. Bradley’s house. She had invited us over for a feast. Her specialty? All things potato – crispy skins, golden fries and fluffy hash browns.

As we entered, Mrs. Bradley bustled around her kitchen, a tiny transistor radio crooning old country tunes. We helped her set the table, laughter bubbling up as we waltzed to the music. Soon, the conversation turned thoughtful, when Aaliyah asked, “Mrs. Bradley, if you could share some advice to living a good life, what would it be?”

Mrs. Bradley paused, a knowing twinkle in her eye.  “Well, honey,” she began, “life’s a bit like a plate piled high – you gotta savor each bite.”  She looked at us, and began to share her wisdom, bite by bite:

Treasure Your Time: Like a perfectly baked potato, cherish each moment. It’s precious, and before you know it, it can be gone.

Appreciate What You Have: Don’t be like a picky eater, pushing away the good stuff. Be grateful for what life offers, even the simple things.

Own Your Mistakes: Sometimes we overcook things, but that’s okay. Learn from your blunders and move on – just like flipping a burnt burger.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff: When life gives lemons, make lemonade—turning challenges into tasty opportunities!

Keep an Open Mind: Not everyone likes ketchup on their fries, and that’s okay! Embrace different perspectives and celebrate the richness of variety.

Take Care of Yourself: You are what you eat, and the same goes for life. Nourish your body and mind, and you’ll flourish like a well-watered garden.

Embrace Risks: A little spice can make life more exciting! Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and explore new possibilities.”

“Wow, Mrs. Bradley, you’re a fountain of wisdom!” I exclaimed, and Aaliyah nodded in enthusiastic agreement. Mrs. Bradley chuckled as we continued to chat, eat to our hearts content and watch the afternoon sun dip below the horizon. Mrs. Bradley’s was a reminder that sometimes, the most profound lessons come wrapped in the warmth of good food, good company, and the golden glow of experience.
